This is the second in a series on the topic of innovation in health care. Previously, the series focused on the state of disruptive innovation in health care (Netflix versus Blockbuster) and the necessity to combine the best of the entrepreneurial/startup mindset with the practical operations and regulatory knowledge of health services professionals.
This event will open with remarks from Dr. Tami Wyatt, Torchbearer Professor, the associate dean of research, and a co-director of the Health Information Technology & Simulation Lab at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Wyatt will discuss key elements necessary to drive a culture of innovation and the use of “design thinking” to re-frame the assessment of health care processes and the needs of patients as a precursor to implementing potential solutions.
Dr. Eric Louie, chief medical officer of Healthbox, a HIMSS Innovation Solution, will moderate a panel of experts discussing various models of innovation organization – from the “Industry Integrator” approach, to corporate/startup models, to employer-led solutions, as well as approaches from two leading academic medical centers.
