About Michael E. Porter
Michael E. Porter is the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School. A leading authority on strategy and the competitiveness of nations and regions, his work is widely recognized in governments, corporations, non-profits and academic circles across the globe. His work has also redefined thinking about economically distressed urban communities, environmental policy, and the role of corporations in society. He is the author of 19 books and numerous articles.
Since the early 2000’s, Professor Porter has devoted considerable attention to understanding and addressing health care in the United States and other countries. His 2006 book, Redefining Health Care (with Professor Elizabeth Teisberg), developed a new strategic framework for transforming the value delivered by the health care system, with implications for providers, health plans, employers, and government. Professor Porter has also published a series of articles on health care delivery and developed an extensive curriculum designed for health professionals.
In 2012 he founded the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), a partnership with Dr. Stefan Larsson of Boston Consulting Group and Dr. Martin Ingvar of the Karolinska Institutet. ICHOM is a non-profit organization committed to the advancement of value-based health care delivery by facilitating outcomes measurement and benchmarking globally.
