The Nashville Health Care Council, a group that represents the region’s influential healthcare industry, has named Hayley Hovious as president, effective June 1.

Hovious, 37, replaces Caroline Young, who has served as president since 2008 and is leaving the organization to work on an undisclosed project with former Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist.

Hovious joins the Council from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, where she was trade director. The Nashville native also has served as a brand manager at E.J. Gallo Winery in Modesto, Calif.

Nashville is the de facto center of the for-profit healthcare provider industry, and home to companies such as HCA, Community Health Systems, LifePoint Hospitals, Acadia Healthcare, AmSurg, Healthways and many others. The Council’s membership also extends beyond the Nashville-Franklin corridor, and includes groups such as the American Hospital Association, investment banks and health information technology companies.

Young, who joined the Council as vice president in 2004, played a key role in expanding its reach. The organization currently counts 265 members. She also helped launch an annual fellowship program for the healthcare industry’s up and coming leaders, which is now in its third year.
