Final Immersion For Our 2024 Council Fellows

Final Immersion For Our 2024 Council Fellows

Nashville Health Care Council Fellows returned to Nashville in mid-May for one last shared learning experience—a 2-day closing retreat designed to help participants unlock key takeaways from the five-month intensive, zero in on opportunities for future collaboration and map out next steps following the program’s conclusion.

“In order for this community, and the healthcare industry, to continue to thrive, we believe it’s more important than ever to return to the ethos the Nashville Health Care Council set forth decades ago—that the only way to grow the industry and move it forward is through relentless collaboration,” said Nashville Health Care Council President Apryl Childs-Potter. “The Fellows program is designed to ensure that collaboration continues.”

Growing as Leaders

Beyond collaboration as a cohort and within the greater Council, retreat participants were presented with numerous tools and tactics to strengthen their approach to cooperation and teamwork both within their organizations and across the healthcare continuum.

Where the cohort’s opening retreat focused on problem solving, game theory and the fundamentals of strategic negotiation, the closing retreat placed greatest emphasis on character traits for effective leadership and strategies for both professional and personal growth, coaching Fellows on proven techniques to develop—and sustain—strong organizational culture.

“When there isn’t a strong culture, you don’t get discretionary effort, or that 10-15% of additional personal investment, from your team members. You get people doing their jobs,” said Michael Burcham, Council Fellows Chair. “And bringing about hard change requires discretionary effort.”
