NASHVILLE – Gresham, Smith and Partners, a leading multi-disciplinary design and consulting firm for the built environment, announces the firm was selected by Miami Valley Hospital South (MVHS) in Dayton, Ohio to design a 200,000 square-foot, five-story expansion to the existing facility which will provide additional inpatient care rooms. MVHS, part of Premier Health Partners, is the Dayton-area’s largest health network. The hospital initially opened in 2007 as an outpatient and emergency facility with a long-range development goal of adding inpatient care.  In 2009, the hospital opened an inpatient wing as part of the long range development plan. This expansion is the second phase of an ongoing development program and will add 64 private inpatient rooms and two floors of shell space for future use. The expansion is anticipated to be completed in 2012.

“As our community continues to grow and demographics change, we need to be prepared with a facility that meets the healthcare needs of the southern Dayton area,” JoAnn Ringer, vice president of Miami Valley Hospital South.  “Currently, outpatient services and emergency room visits at MVHS are exceeding projections. Emergency visits alone resulted in nearly 3,000 inpatient admissions last year.  The addition of these 64 private inpatient rooms and shell space will help us to better serve patients in the area for years to come.”

Three floors of the addition will be dedicated to patient care with a total of 64 private patient rooms. Two floors will have 24 private rooms and will have medical/surgical care and orthopedic services. One patient floor will have 16 rooms and which will be designated for obstetrical patient care. Two floors will be shell space for an addition of 48 patient rooms in the future.

“We look forward to designing this expansion for MVHS in accordance with the master plan,” Ken Priest, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, principal-in-charge, Gresham, Smith and Partners. “Our main goal is to design an environment where members of the community can receive quality care.”

Skanska/Shook, a joint venture team focused on Healthcare and Technology clients, will perform construction management on the Miami Valley Hospital South expansion.
