Health Care Council Announces 2010-2011 Board of Directors

NASHVILLE – The Nashville Health Care Council announces the appointment of its 2010-2011 Board of Directors. Chairman Joey A. Jacobs, chairman, president and CEO of Psychiatric Solutions, will continue in his second year as chairman of the board. Ben R. Leedle, Jr., CEO, Healthways, continues as vice-chair.

“The Health Care Council makes a significant contribution to the growth and development of Nashville’s dynamic health care community,” Jacobs said. “I look forward to continue to work with other health care leaders to further enhance opportunities for existing and start-up companies, to increase our support for future generations of health care leaders and entrepreneurs, and to raise Nashville’s visibility as the nation’s health care industry capital.”

Four new members joined the board on July 1 for three-year terms. They are Senator William H. Frist, M.D., partner, Cressey & Company; Wayne Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP, president & CEO, Meharry Medical College; Bill Sheriff, CEO, Brookdale Senior Living; and Dee Anna Smith, CEO, Sarah Cannon Research Institute.

The following board members were re-elected to serve three-year terms on the board: Richard M. Bracken, chairman & CEO, HCA; A.J. Kazimi, president & CEO, Cumberland Pharmaceuticals; Jim Lackey, chairman, Passport Health Communications; and Keith Pitts, vice chairman, Vanguard Health Systems.

Eight new members representing health care companies and professional services groups that support the industry joined the 2010-2011 board for one-year terms. They are George W. Bishop III, partner, Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis; Patrick Blake, executive vice president & group president, McKesson; A. Stuart Campbell, member, Stites & Harbison; M. Robert DiGia, global head of Healthcare Banking, UBS Investment Bank; Ric Pennisi, managing director, Marsh; Andrew Quirk, senior vice president, Skanska USA; Tom Walker, partner, Deloitte & Touche; and Thomas C. Wylly, II, senior partner, Brentwood Capital Advisors.

In addition, Melissa Waddey, senior director of Strategic Planning at LifePoint Hospitals and chairman of the Council’s Leadership Health Care group was appointed to serve a one-year term.

“We are honored to have such highly-respected industry leaders serving on the Council’s Board of Directors,” said Council President Caroline Young. “These board members bring world-class industry experience and leadership to the organization, and we are pleased to have their support and participation as the Council continues to grow and expand its program activities.”

The Nashville Health Care Council, founded in 1995 as an initiative of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, is an association of health care industry leaders working together to further establish Nashville’s position as the nation’s health care industry capital. The health care industry is Nashville’s largest and fastest growing employer, contributing approximately 210,000 jobs and $30 billion to the local economy.
