NASHVILLE – Nearly 100 health care industry professionals will hear the latest in federal health policy developments from industry experts in Washington, D.C. next week.
Leadership Health Care (LHC), an initiative of the Nashville Health Care Council, will visit the nation’s capital as key provisions of health reform unfold and while lawmakers address funding priorities.
“LHC’s annual delegation to Washington provides the future leaders of Nashville’s number one health care industry the chance to hear from some of the country’s most respected policymakers and have candid exchanges about the role of Nashville in the implementation of health care reform,” said LHC Director Judith Byrd.
“The unique access to decision makers and information offered during this event provides our emerging industry leaders with the knowledge they need to best represent and implement health care operations at home,” said LHC Chairwoman and LifePoint Hospitals Senior Director of Hospital Strategic Planning Melissa Waddey. “These one-of-a-kind development opportunities for our emerging leaders are key to Nashville’s continued industry growth and success.”
The 2011 LHC Delegation will take place on March 30-31. In its ninth year, the signature LHC event will include conversations with the Tennessee Congressional Delegation, Farzad Mostashari, M.D., deputy national coordinator for programs and policy, Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT; Michael Hash, director, Office of Health Reform, U.S. Health and Human Services Administration; Carmella Boochino, executive vice president, Clinical Affairs and Strategic Planning, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP); Linda Fishman, senior vice president for public policy analysis and development, American Hospital Association; Neil Kirschner, acting director, Regulatory and Insurer Affairs, American College of Physicians; and Mary Ella Payne, vice president, System Legislative Leadership, Ascension Health, among others.
A special dinner will host Dr. Larry Sabato, political analyst, author and director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, as the keynote speaker.
A delegation scholarship was awarded to Brooks Daverman, associate with the State of Tennessee’s Insurance Exchange Planning Initiative. LHC awards one scholarship per delegation, including the biennial Delegation to Wall Street, which is scheduled for September 2011.
