East Tennessee State University’s nationally recognized College of Public Health, the first College of Public Health in the state of Tennessee, is ranked in the top third nationally and in the top ten in the southeast. Offering degrees at undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels, the college is comprised of five academic departments, two centers of excellence, the Tennessee Institute for Public Health, and the Tennessee Public Health Training Center. In 2019 a national Center for Rural Health Research was established in the college through state and private investment to identify new mechanisms to disrupt inter-generational cycles of behaviors that contribute to poor health outcomes in rural and non-urban communities.
