Initiative convenes industry executives to explore innovative solutions for health care’s greatest challenges
Today, the Nashville Health Care Council and Fellows co-directors former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., and health care economist Larry Van Horn, revealed the 2017 class of the Nashville Health Care Council Fellows. The class of 31 senior executives from various sectors of the health care industry will address challenges facing the nation’s health care system and collaborate toward positive transformation.
“The members of this and past Fellows classes are the ones who will shape the direction of the nation’s health care,” said Frist. “In this time of great change and uncertainty, it is more important than ever for leaders to come together to learn, collaborate and find solutions that will create a better, more efficient system in the years ahead. I look forward to our work together.”
This is the fifth class to be named for this annual initiative. The members of the 2017 Fellows class are:

The Fellows Initiative
Founded by the Nashville Health Care Council, the Fellows initiative is changing the way the industry meets today’s most critical health care challenges.
The Fellows will meet for a two-day orientation retreat and eight full-day sessions to delve into new ideas to address the obstacles facing the U.S. health care system in years ahead. The annual initiative engages these top professionals to better implement business strategies, create value, drive growth and effect change.
“Nashville’s health care industry has led the nation over the past 50 years, creating a diverse ecosystem where entrepreneurism thrives and collaboration is paramount,” said Hayley Hovious, Council president. “The Council is proud to convene such an impressive group of Fellows, who will combine their expertise and creativity to improve the delivery of patient care across the globe.”
The comprehensive curriculum will address topics such as new care delivery models, consumerism, disruptive innovation, reimbursement shifts, population health management and globalization.
“The Fellows initiative challenges these executives to think differently about the business of health care, and empowers them with the knowledge to transform the way they operate,” said Van Horn, a leading expert in health care management and economics, and professor at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. “I am proud to continue this meaningful dialogue and exploration, as we build a network of unmatched expertise through Fellows.”
Fellows has an enduring impact on its graduates, and the alumni program ensures that members continue collaboration long after their graduation. Each graduating class joins a distinguished group of alumni already applying their Fellows experience in the field.
