Optimizing Patient Flow in Hospitals: Insights from Healthcare Investors

Leadership Health Care (LHC) Cohorts provide members the opportunity to participate in a peer mentoring program facilitated by an experienced healthcare executive. Throughout six cohort sessions, participants discuss substantive topics around a common focus area to enhance their knowledge and leadership skills.

Elevating Healthcare Leadership Through

On May 9th, Darshan Prabhu, Partner at Whistler Capital and Edmund Jackson, CEO of UnityAI, visited the Leadership Health Care Private Equity cohort as guest speakers to discuss Whistler Capital’s investment portfolio and how their investment in UnityAI is optimizing patient flow through hospitals.

Founded in 2021 following a spin out from a prior firm, Whistler Capital Partners is a healthcare-focused private equity firm comprised of a team with extensive investment and healthcare operating experience across market cycles. With over $1 billion in assets under management, Whistler Capital has made significant strides in investments directed at the intersection of services, funding, and technology.

During the conversation with the cohort, Darshan highlighted that Whistler opts to take a 10-year view on an investment instead of the traditional 3–5-year view to focus on control-oriented investments that are optimized for risk, structure, and entry. Whistler often emphasizes being the 1st institutional investor and finding the right partners who are willing to put their equity into the business versus cashing out.

One Whistler portfolio company that Darshan showcased was AmeriPro Health, where the company has seen rapid platform-scaling through innovation and process redesign for medical transports throughout six states in the Southeastern U.S. With AmeriPro Health’s differentiated approach to the market, they’ve especially seen successful results through new client contracts, client retention, revenue, and a rise in EBITDA margin.

The second half of the cohort session gave UnityAI’s CEO, Edmund Jackson, the opportunity to expound on his company’s focus. By utilizing AI reinforcement learning that helps create predictive models to match patient discharges with ambulances, UnityAI’s business model supports hospital teams in the day-to-day care for its patients. As Edmund emphasized during his conversation with cohort participants is that “AI is the next human capability that computers can almost achieve. Once achieved, it becomes ‘just technology’.”
