Behavioral health provider Acadia Healthcare opens shop in Franklin, where it grows at a slow, steady pace in early years. That changes soon enough.

In 2011, entrepreneur Joey Jacobs — fresh off selling his Psychiatric Solutions Inc. for a total $3 billion — joins Acadia as CEO. Armed with investments from majority-owner Waud Capital Partners, Jacobs begins an aggressive campaign to acquire, develop and operate a national network of behavioral health facilities. In 2014, he will lead the firm’s $1.18-billion takeover of CRC Health Group Inc., another major player in the behavioral space.
