Dennis Grimaud starts Cytometry Associates, one of city’s first biotech companies. Thanks to Grimaud — and a $1 million boost from local investor Andy May — Nashville health care makes its entry into the biotech world.
Grimaud emerges from this as a major player in the city’s health care sector and will go on to lead the way in establishing other biotech companies, as well as building out this sector of the health care industry locally.
Cytometry Associates was purchased by Esoterix, Inc. in 1995, which was then purchased by industry giant LabCorp in 2000. Grimaud goes on to be head the Tennessee Biotechnology Association, and establish or lead several biotech companies, including Premier Micronutrient Corp., Theragnostix Reference Laboratories, Inc., and Genaco, Inc.
