Former Tennessee Cabinet official Nancy-Ann Min Deparle is named head of the Health Care Finance Administration (now CMS) under President Bill Clinton. Previously a partner at Bass, Berry & Sims, DeParle will go on to become “health czar” for the Obama administration before serving as deputy chief of staff.

During her time in the political sphere, DeParle maintains many business ties, as well as the entrepreneurial instincts of Nashville through her involvement with CCMP Capital and JP Morgan, as well as service on the board of several publicly traded health care companies.

For many in Nashville, her appointment signifies a national recognition of the city’s achievements and influence in health care.
