Founded in Brentwood by entrepreneur Joe Cashia, NRA launches with an aggressive business model. Within six years, the dialysis provider serves more than 2,200 patients in 45 facilities across 10 states, primarily in the Midwest and South.

On Dec. 31, 2008, NRA is acquired by its Franklin neighbor, Renal Advantage, the third-largest for-profit dialysis provider in the country. Three years later, international dialysis giant Fresenius Medical Care agrees to buy Renal Advantage’s holding company for $1.7 billion.
