One week after announcing Karen Springer as the system’s new CEO, Saint Thomas Health grows from five hospitals to nine when it acquires several Middle Tennessee facilities from Franklin-based Capella Healthcare. The four hospitals were previously co-owned by Saint Thomas Health and Capella. The acquisition includes River Park Hospital in McMinnville, Highlands Medical Center in Sparta, DeKalb Community Hospital in Smithville and Stones River Hospital in Woodbury.
The community hospitals are Capella’s remaining properties in Tennessee. Three days later, the organization sells to an Alabama-based real estate investment trust (REIT) for $900 million.
