Wall Street’s View on Prospects for the Health Care Industry

Matt Larew joined William Blair in 2012 and covers life science tools and health care delivery. In 2018, Institutional Investor named Larew a Rising Star for the All-America Research Team. In the 2019 StarMine Analyst Awards from Refinitiv, Larew was ranked the No. 3 stock picker for health care providers and services. Before receiving an MBA in finance and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Iowa, Larew completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a B.S. in biological sciences. Larew worked as a research assistant at the University of Iowa Bone Healing Research Lab before pursuing his graduate degrees.

 

A.J. Rice has more than 25 years of Wall Street experience and has been named among the top U.S. health care services analysts by Institutional Investor magazine 15 times. Rice is currently the number one ranked analyst by Institutional Investor in Health Care Facilities & Managed Care. Rice joined Credit Suisse as a managing director in 2017 and has covered health care stocks since 1991. He previously worked at UBS, Susquehanna, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, and JP Morgan. Rice started his financial career in the mergers and acquisitions department of JP Morgan in 1987. He also managed a health care hedge fund, Pomeroy Capital, from 2006 to 2010. Rice received an MBA in accounting/finance from Columbia University and a B.A. in economics from the University of Virginia.

 

Brian Tanquilut is a senior equity analyst at Jefferies covering the Healthcare Services sector. He joined the firm in 2003 and has covered the health care space since 2005. In May 2013, the Wall Street Journal named Tanquilut the No. 1-ranked analyst for the health care sector in its annual Best On The Street survey. Tanquilut has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and has held positions in equity research and corporate banking.  Tanquilut has an MBA from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.

Paul Kusserow is the chief executive officer and chairman of the Board of Amedisys. Under his leadership, the company has grown its value 9x itself and has been established as a clinical leader in the fast-growing home health and hospice industry. Kusserow, a health care industry veteran with deep expertise in driving growth strategies, previously served as president and vice chairman of Alignment Healthcare, Inc. Prior to that, he served for five years as senior vice president, chief strategy, innovations and corporate development officer of Humana, Inc. Kusserow’s experience also includes time as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Ziegler HealthVest Fund; Managing Director of San Ysidro Capital Partners, L.L.C.; and Managing Partner of Roaring Mountain, L.L.C. He began his healthcare career with Tenet Healthcare Corporation where he spent seven years, the last four as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Ventures. He began his career as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company, Inc. Kusserow is on the board of directors of Picwell, Oak Street Health and Matrix Medical Network.
