LHC Industry Tour: Ascension Surgery Center

Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital – Surgery / ICU tower addition was developed along with architectural partner Gresham Smith through a comprehensive process-led, patient-experience and staff-focused design. Recognizing a need for expanded surgical and critical care services, STM explored a new building platform built around a centralized sterile-processing department that feeds 18 new ORs, new surgical prep and recovery units and feeds directly into a 3^rd floor, 36-bed ICU unit with additional connectivity to existing hospital areas via the new elevator tower. The project was designed and constructed during the Covid-19 pandemic which introduced strategies for both a flexible healthcare environment along with a pandemic-minded public access point.
